The lake offers a pristine countryside backdrop with primitive accommodations for camping or building your campfire. There are fish living in the water, mostly panfish and large & small-mouth bass. The state record largemouth bass was caught in Nelson Lake. Nelson Lake is the official home of the annual SausageFest men's weekend. SausageFest is a gathering of good friends, food, fun, and refreshments. July 2008 will mark the 6th anniversary of the all-male nurse getaway. Nelson Lake is next to Nelson Lake Dam which is a wonderful site positively worth stopping at. Summertime highs at Nelson Lake ordinarily tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Nelson Lake are in the-10's. Nelson Lake is typically a reasonably arid       location; throughout June this area sees the most rain while January is usually the driest month. Why not camp at Cross Ranch State Park if you're here at Nelson Lake, and naturally Hagel Creek is a charming stream that is worth a visit. Square Butte is picturesque and can be observed from Nelson Lake, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Seven Seas Inn & Conference Center is a nice place to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful.
