The lake offers a pristine countryside backdrop with primitive accommodations for camping or building your campfire. There are fish living in the water, mostly panfish and large & small-mouth bass. The state record largemouth bass was caught in Nelson Lake. Nelson Lake is the official home of the annual SausageFest men's weekend. SausageFest is a gathering of good friends, food, fun, and refreshments. July 2008 will mark the 6th anniversary of the all-male nurse getaway. Nelson Lake gets very little rain; the month with most of the rain is June, and January meanwhile is the driest month. All through the summertime months highs here at Nelson Lake reach the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's; night       lows at Nelson Lake during the wintertime usually plunge into the-10's. If you're a golfer then a good close by course is Square Butte Creek Golf Course; the peak of Square Butte can be observed from Nelson Lake. So much fun stuff to do at Nelson Lake, so little time. A lake nearby is Sweet Briar Lake. This lake is so wonderful. At Nelson Lake Dam in close proximity to Nelson Lake there are some interesting things to see; Cross Ranch State Park is a good campground                  nearby.
