A tour to Locust Gap is always fun, and lakes are such calm spots, why not take a look at Carroll Lake. That right there is heaps already, but it continues; Wood Lake has it all. You can take a little visit to Wood Lake Dam since you're here at Wood Lake, and there are other places here than Wood Lake, for example Mission Lake. All the outdoors cool stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains will keep you coming back time and again. There's whitewater on Fires Creek

lows in the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Wood Lake plunge into the 20's. Wood Lake gets much water; March is the month that gets the
most rain; the driest of the months is October. This lake is so wonderful. Wilderness Cove is a pleasant local campground; on a great day you can take a hike along the Sugar Cove Trail. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is always
beautiful. There is a glorious hiking trail in the vicinity of Wood Lake called the South Fork Citico Trail. There are some good whitewater spots on Snowbird Creek; naturally Allmon Branch flows through this area. This lake is
so wonderful. If the weather is delightful here at Wood Lake, you can go for a hike along the CHoga Trail, and after a long day outdoors Microtel Inn and Suites Robbinsville is a pleasant spot to spend a night or two.

Cable Cove Campground
16 miles away Great campground. Not too big (20 sites?), rarely full. Large tent pads, fire rings with grill tops, a separate charcoal grill, picnic tables, and sometimes 2 lantern posts are set on spacious lots set far off the road with most parking areas big enough to accomidate large RV's. Access to campground and boat ramp is paved the whole way. Water and a primative flush toilet provided. Camping close to the entrance may include noises from the pumphouse at night. Only a quarter mile from boat ramp on one of the most beautiful sections of Lake Fontana. Great canoe-camping. The interpretive trail is probably a little over a mile long. Extensive hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking close by. Closest store is at Fontana Village, about 8 mi. away, and if they're closed, I think that the closest beer is some 30 mi. away in Bryson City. Be farwarned. PLEASE BE COURTIOUS TO OTHERS AND LEAVE BARKING DOGS AT HOME!...

Arkaquah Trail
18 miles away Hiked this trail with a friend on Labour Day weekend 2007 and it was one of the toughest trails that we have done. Parking at Brasstown and hiking down was pretty easy and we stopped to eat at Track Rock. Going back up to Brasstown was pretty brutal even though we are both in good shape. There are few turns or forks, which is good because the trail is NOT marked in many places. We heard reports of a copperhead and yellow jackets on the trail, but only saw red tailed hawks, bugs and worms. There is no water on this trail, but its very shady, at least in the summer. The views are nice and you are advised to take your time climbing using short steady steps. Over 11 miles of hiking total and it took a good 6 hours including rest stops, eating time, pictures, etc....
Bald Mountain Park Campground
18 miles away Mike and Pam has done a beautiful job with the park. We have a place in the residential? section of Bald Mountain Park and we have to go thru the park to get to our place and each time we go up there we notice somrthing else that they have done to the park to make it look better. We used to camp alots before we got our own place,I? would say that Bald Mountain Park is one of the cleanest park that we have every camp at.?????????? KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK THAT YOU''ll ARE DOING!...This is one of the nicest campgrounds East of the Mississippi River! I have been to many! Mike and Pam have taken a run-down campground and turned it around and into one that anyone will be glad to visit. There are tons of things to see and do in the area....
