Wildcat Lake is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. If the weather is magnificent here at Wildcat Lake, you can go for a hike along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail; Grandfather Campground and Cabins is a good local campground. What a spot this is for outdoors folks. You should undeniably pop by Pinnacle of the Sugar since you're here at Wildcat Lake; for you golfers we recommend close by Mountain Glen Golf Club. | | tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Wildcat Lake are in the 10's. The panorama of wonderful Bald Mountain near Wildcat Lake is magnificent, and delightful skiing awaits you at Sugar Mountain. Down By The River Campground is a delightful campground nearby. Lakes are perfect; Mill Pond is a lake that's next to Wildcat Lake. This lake is so wonderful. | |

After a long day outdoors Best Western Mountain Lodge At Banner Elk is a magnificent spot to spend a night or two; the Yancey Ridge Trail is a brilliant hiking trail close by. There is a glorious hiking trail right next door to
Wildcat Lake called the Laurel Fork Trail; while you're here why not pop by Sugar Gap. This lake is so wonderful. Drift down the rapids of Elk River in a kayak, and if you need a place to stay Beech Mountain Inns is a good choice.
It's a magnificent idea to stop by Hanging Rock Creek, it's near Wildcat Lake, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Hawksnest. Wildcat Lake really is in the middle of a striking outdoors paradise. You'll
meet a lot of folks from Boone here, and not far from Wildcat Lake you'll hit upon Grandfather Mountain Lake which is a gorgeous lake. Wildcat Lake gets a great deal of water; most of the rain falls during May; December is when it's the driest.

Laurel Fork Trail
 | 13 miles away 6 PHOTOS Not normally hikers, and middle aged, this trail was a killer. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful, but we were worn out. We ran into a copperhead, twice, once on the way up, and again on the way down. Apparently he was guarding his territory. The falls weren't as full as we hoped, but there has been a lack of rain in this area. The trail in some area's were a bit rough, steep, and dangerous, but at least we can say we made it.... |

 | 18 miles away Springmaid Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. Even if you don't like camping they also have cabins. If you go camping, try going in the off season. We went in Sept. 05 and we basically had the campground to ourselves! Even if others were in the campground, the sites are spaced apart. Its a great getaway.... |
