Arkaquah Trail
13 miles away Hiked this trail with a friend on Labour Day weekend 2007 and it was one of the toughest trails that we have done. Parking at Brasstown and hiking down was pretty easy and we stopped to eat at Track Rock. Going back up to Brasstown was pretty brutal even though we are both in good shape. There are few turns or forks, which is good because the trail is NOT marked in many places. We heard reports of a copperhead and yellow jackets on the trail, but only saw red tailed hawks, bugs and worms. There is no water on this trail, but its very shady, at least in the summer. The views are nice and you are advised to take your time climbing using short steady steps. Over 11 miles of hiking total and it took a good 6 hours including rest stops, eating time, pictures, etc....
Coosa Backcountry Trail
14 miles away ... until we merged onto the Coosa trail. We walked about a tenth of a mile and lost the trail, we then back tracked about one hundred yards and I looked to my left and noticed the marker, it was straight up hill. We proceeded up the side of the mountain realizing that being in our early twenties would not save us from severe exhaustion. We found ourselves stopping every five minutes or so to catch our breath. To add to the intense climb, about half way up it started to rain which made the 40F weather a little colder. We decided we were to far into the journey now to turn back, so we pushed on. After a few hours of strenuous hiking we reached the junction of the Coosa and Appalachian Trail. We pushed on for another hour or two until we reached the top and I saw the better than I expected shelter at the summit of Blood Mountain. We staggered in about two at a time a few minutes apart, each small group repeating the same emotion of screaming here it is, or we found it, finally. We camped in the shelter with two other parties and proceeded to drink the liquor we brought with us which helpe...

Enota Resort and Campground
19 miles away ...re in our camper van several times in the past 3 years and love to hike up to the AT and the waterfalls, or watch the kids fish for trout in the pond in front of the Lodge The land is pristine, laced with waterfalls and streams totally accessible to both RV camping (full hook-ups) or tent camping. The cabins are rustically charming and recently more modern motel-type rooms have been added within view of the waterfall. Some of the structures on this property are CCC-built and the staff also honors Enota's Cherokee heritage as well, with a sweat lodge, sacred circle, drumming and the occasional Native American presenter, who happened to be leading the Sweat Lodge ceremonies when we were there this spring. We discovered that Enota is a non-profit ecological and teaching facility as well, and we campers and cabin folk mingle at the weekend breakfasts in the Lodge with the staff and the volunteers who help run the campgrounds, the gardens or the animal farm. This campground has newly remodeled restrooms and plentiful showers and also has trampolines for the kids (and me!) We were there a...
