Wests Pond is a nice lake to visit. This lake is so wonderful. Camping at Fayetteville Koa is always a great experience, and dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Spring Lake-Ft. Bragg/Pope Afb. That right there is lots already, but it keeps on going; Wests Pond has it all. There are other spots here than Wests Pond, for example Smith Lake, and good hiking is available along the American Beech Trail. If you're visiting Wests Pond from Dunn, you won't

| | be the only one, and Sleep Inn ,Inn & Suites is a good location to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Lazy Acres, and paddling on Upper Little River is so much fun. Wests Pond is a wet place that gets a great deal of rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is November. sets in temperatures sink down into the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Wests Pond are in the 20's. There are swamps here too; Black Swamp is in close proximity,
and whitewater paddling is great on Cape Fear. Not far from Wests Pond you obtain some nice water scenery at Smith Lake Dam; the Group Camp Trail offers hiking at its best. Lakes are such peaceful places, why not have a look at
Youngs Pond close to Wests Pond, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Wests Pond; Fish Camp Trail is a glorious local trail.

 | Smith lake is a nice place to camp, bike ride and swim. I have 3 young children and they had a BLAST! We plan on going again very soon. Bathrooms were clean and out of some of the campsites I've been to this is the one I like....Nice area for hiking, running, mt biking. Also nice beach area for the summer.... |
McFadyen Lake
 | 13 miles away I can be reached at, yellowcheeks2001@yahoo. We just bought a boat and don't know of any good size lakes to go to. If you know of a good spot, let me know....Good Lake for canoeing, but you have to stay near the creeks or geat a membership for 120 or so.... |

Guys Pond
 | 18 miles away Guy's Pond is a great place to fish. As of my latest fishing trip on 1/25/2009, it was $3 per person and $4 per night camping. Also, 14 years of age and younger were free! This is a great pond. While you are fishing, you can watch the cows, and/or the horses. The pond is much better than Pope's Lake. They kicked us out of that lake on the same day as my trip to Guy's Pond. I rate this pond as a 10 and suggest anyone in the area looking for a fishing hole should try Guy's Pond.... |
