Wainwright Pond is great enough to spend more than a day at, Rock Ridge Campground is a great local campground, and Whiteoak Swamp is in close proximity to Wainwright Pond and is always a pleasure to check out.       This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Wainwright Pond you will meet lots of people from close by Wilson, and you can run the rapids of Tar River. If you need a location to stay Econo Lodge Wilson is a tremendous choice, and if you're a golfer then a perfect nearby course is Wedgewood Public Golf Course. Wainwright Pond is a wet place that gets a good deal of rain; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is October.
