Nantahala River
 | Be Aware! The Nanty is a bottom-release river - meaning that the water you're in has been sitting at the bottom of a lake for a while, totally unexposed to sunshine. The result: 50 degrees F, year-round. It may be 90 and sunny out, but it's a different story in the water - dress appropriately!... |
Rufus Morgan Trail
 | Excellent hiking trail with good access and beautiful falls. Rufus Morgan is a moderately hard short trail up to stunning 60' falls. Beautiful forest surrounds the trail. Be careful and tell someone you're going though... there's no on around for miles and if you get lost or hurt, you're on you're own. The waterfall is at the end of the trail and is easy to find. The road up to the trail is just a forest service road, but it is in great condition and there's a marked parking area (4 spots) with signage at the trailhead. We went in early August and the trail is not overgrown and in great shape.... |

Turkey Creek Campground
 | 14 miles away We stayed here in October 06. Four families. Had a wonderful experience. Camp sites are shaded, quiet, large and level. Campsite is very clean and bathrooms are very clean and well maintained. Close to Fontana and Bryson City. Make sure you have beer, etc, the closest liquor is Bryson City (20 minute drive) ... |
Cable Cove Campground
 | 14 miles away Great campground. Not too big (20 sites?), rarely full. Large tent pads, fire rings with grill tops, a separate charcoal grill, picnic tables, and sometimes 2 lantern posts are set on spacious lots set far off the road with most parking areas big enough to accomidate large RV's. Access to campground and boat ramp is paved the whole way. Water and a primative flush toilet provided. Camping close to the entrance may include noises from the pumphouse at night. Only a quarter mile from boat ramp on one of the most beautiful sections of Lake Fontana. Great canoe-camping. The interpretive trail is probably a little over a mile long. Extensive hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking close by. Closest store is at Fontana Village, about 8 mi. away, and if they're closed, I think that the closest beer is some 30 mi. away in Bryson City. Be farwarned. PLEASE BE COURTIOUS TO OTHERS AND LEAVE BARKING DOGS AT HOME!... |

 | 17 miles away Mike and Pam has done a beautiful job with the park. We have a place in the residential? section of Bald Mountain Park and we have to go thru the park to get to our place and each time we go up there we notice somrthing else that they have done to the park to make it look better. We used to camp alots before we got our own place,I? would say that Bald Mountain Park is one of the cleanest park that we have every camp at.?????????? KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK THAT YOU''ll ARE DOING!...This is one of the nicest campgrounds East of the Mississippi River! I have been to many! Whistle Stop RV Park
 | 18 miles away Tent camping is not available. This site is RV park only. There are about 10 hookups at $20. 00 per night. Small, well-behaved pets are allowed; however, the sites are adjacent to a high traffic pedestrian area and if there are problems with unruly pets, owners will be asked to leave. There is no campfire area. There is a full grocery store very near the Whistle Stop and three restaurants on site. There is no pool or gameroom.
