If you are in Halifax county it's always a good idea to stop by Moss Lake. Jack Horse Swamp is a nice local stream; if the weather is fine, you can go for a hike along the Discovery Loop Trail. This lake is so wonderful. A tremendous close by hotel is Quality Inn Battleboro. Going for a hike along the Dam Site Loop Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area, and Moss Lake Dam is a place that is near Moss Lake.

If you're here at Moss Lake and you like golf, you can stop by Hickory Meadows Golf Course, and after a long day outdoors Howard Johnson Inn is a delightful location to spend a night or two. Tar River is a tremendous whitewater spot close to Moss Lake; a pleasant site to camp here at Moss Lake is KOA Campgrounds. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Enfield/Rocky Mount KOA
while you're here at Moss Lake, and if you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Roanoke River. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Moss Lake, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Highs throughout the winter are frequently in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Moss Lake.
