McGregor Downs Lake is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. If you come at the right time of year, Neuse River offers some great whitewater. So many fun things to do at McGregor Downs Lake, so little time. Long Branch is a stream that you may stumble upon while here, and glide down the rapids of Buckhorn Creek in a kayak. High temperatures at McGregor Downs Lake during the days of summer are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's.

do that. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at McGregor Downs Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Dream Camps is a great place for that, and don't leave McGregor Downs Lake without first going for a hike
along the Little Creek Loop Trail.
McGregor Downs Lake gets a great deal of water; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and April on the other hand is the driest. Go for a hike on the East Loop Horse
Trail, and dry warm beds await you at Comfort Suites Cary. Enjoy a round of golf at Lochmere Golf Club not far from McGregor Downs Lake, and if you need a location to stay Hampton Inn Cary is a great choice.
Going for a hike on
the West Loop Horse Trail is always a pleasant adventure, and there are other sites here than McGregor Downs Lake, for example Apex Lake.

Guys Pond

Guy's Pond is a great place to fish. As of my latest fishing trip on 1/25/2009, it was $3 per person and $4 per night camping. Also, 14 years of age and younger were free! This is a great pond. While you are fishing, you can watch the cows, and/or the horses. The pond is much better than Pope's Lake. They kicked us out of that lake on the same day as my trip to Guy's Pond. I rate this pond as a 10 and suggest anyone in the area looking for a fishing hole should try Guy's Pond.... |
