Matthews Lake gets a good deal of water; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is April. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Matthews Lake has to offer, you can camp at Birchwood RV Park; Sandy Creek is right next door to Matthews Lake and is always a pleasure to go to. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we       recommend Eno River, and most likely you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Clark Lake is just a very short distance away. An afternoon playing golf at Twin Lakes Golf Course is always a pleasure. This location is peerless, just check out all the exciting stuff to do right next door to Matthews Lake. There's so much to do here at Matthews Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Spring Hill Park is a tremendous location for that, and the wonderful                  folks of Durham like to hang out close by. Do have a look at Matthews Lake Dam since you're here at Matthews Lake, and after a long day outdoors Four Points by Sheraton Durham at Southpoint is a good location to spend a night or two. If you come at the right time of year, New Hope Creek offers some tremendous whitewater; dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Chapel Hill, Nc. Through the warm months at Matthews Lake highs are mostly in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 60's.
