The Little Creek Loop Trail is a nice hiking trail next to MacGregor Downs Lake; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Cape Fear. Highs throughout the wintertime are generally in the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at MacGregor Downs Lake drop into the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Buckhorn Creek offers some tremendous whitewater; after a long day outdoors Courtyard Raleigh Cary is a perfect place to spend a night or two.

Guys Pond

Guy's Pond is a great place to fish. As of my latest fishing trip on 1/25/2009, it was $3 per person and $4 per night camping. Also, 14 years of age and younger were free! This is a great pond. While you are fishing, you can watch the cows, and/or the horses. The pond is much better than Pope's Lake. They kicked us out of that lake on the same day as my trip to Guy's Pond. I rate this pond as a 10 and suggest anyone in the area looking for a fishing hole should try Guy's Pond.... |
Beaverdam Lake

Beaverdam Lake is really a part of Falls Lake. It is approximately fifteen minutes north of the I-540 beltway on Highway 50. Beaverdam Lake is separated from the main lake by a partial dam and bridge. It is approximately 500 acres in size.
Beaverdam Lake is restricted; no gasoline engines are allowed. This makes it a great place for kayaks, canoes, sailboats and electric-motor propelled boats. It has a very nice concrete boat ramp and adjacent dock, and has a very large parking lot. Adjacent to the boat launching ramp is a nice sand beach with floats delineating the swimming area and a small pavilion.
