Lake Kawahna is always a pleasure to visit. Lake Kawahna is a beautiful lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Really splendid skiing awaits you at Appalachian Mountain, and not far from Lake Kawahna you'll locate Land Harbors Lake which is a beautiful lake. The high level of rain makes Lake Kawahna a quite wet location; the month with most of the rain is May; the driest of the months is December. All the outdoors amusing things in the Blue Ridge Mountains will

Lost Cove Creek has a delightful whitewater paddling spot close by, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Mountain Lodge At Banner Elk. You believe that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Kawahna, and there are great places to discover along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Down By The River Campground, and if you need a site to stay Beech Mountain Inns is a delightful
choice. But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whitewater paddling is great on North Harper Creek, and don't leave Lake Kawahna without first going for a hike along the Yancey Ridge Trail. Throughout
the days of summer at Lake Kawahna temperatures are usually in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Lake Kawahna are
in the 10's. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff next to Lake Kawahna. Lake Kawahna is not far at all from Boone, and Anthony Mountain is clearly visible from Lake Kawahna. Playing golf is lots of fun at Mountain Glen
Golf Club, and if you came for an overnight stay Jim and Jennie's Music Barn and Campground is a good place to camp. Hawksnest has wonderful slopes and a friendly staff; there are other spots here than Lake Kawahna, for example Grandfather
Mountain Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Montezuma Gap is a good spot to pop by close to Lake Kawahna, and there's fine hiking along the Laurel Fork Trail.

Springmaid Mountain
15 miles away Springmaid Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. Even if you don't like camping they also have cabins. If you go camping, try going in the off season. We went in Sept. 05 and we basically had the campground to ourselves! Even if others were in the campground, the sites are spaced apart. Its a great getaway....
Laurel Fork Trail
16 miles away 6 PHOTOS Not normally hikers, and middle aged, this trail was a killer. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful, but we were worn out. We ran into a copperhead, twice, once on the way up, and again on the way down. Apparently he was guarding his territory. The falls weren't as full as we hoped, but there has been a lack of rain in this area. The trail in some area's were a bit rough, steep, and dangerous, but at least we can say we made it....

Lake James Landing
19 miles away We are looking forward to our first full year at Lake James Landing. We're hoping to find cooler summer temps than our central Florida normal. The Landings are beautifully maintained & other RV'ers are friendly helpful folks. Can't wait to get up there....We have a camper at Lake James Landing, and we enjoy it very much! Friendly folks, family oriented, and quiet. There are 4 ramps for launching boats, and the campground is currently expanding under new ownership. There are docks for launching, and plenty of room to beach your boat overnight. We've never had an issue with theft or vandalism while leaving our boat beached while we are camping. I highly recommend this campground for campers with children....
