This lake is so wonderful. Near Johnson Pond you stumble on a golf course called Lake Gaston Golf Club, and don't leave Johnson Pond without first going for a hike along the Discovery Loop Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is good on Roanoke River, and Dickens Pond Dam is an attention-grabbing thing to check out.
