     The good people of Lexington-Thomasville like to hang out nearby; the summit of Shepherd Mountain can be seen from J B White Lake. Days Inn Asheboro is a pleasant site to get some rest, and some nearby water includes Little Caraway Creek. J B White Lake sees pretty high levels of rain; June is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is April. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to look at everything J B White Lake has  
   to offer, you can camp at Banjo Creek RV Resort & Campground.
J B White Lake is a nice location to visit for more than one day, Holly Bluff Family Campground is a nice location to camp nearby. Lakes? Sure, Asheboro County Club Lake is in the vicinity. Summer at J B White Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 90's; throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the period of the wintertime highs are frequently in the 40's, and night lows
 
               in the 20's for J B White Lake. A pleasant close by hotel is INNKEEPER High Point, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Birkhead Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Deep River offers some delightful whitewater; not far from J B White Lake you'll locate Wesleyan Youth Camp Lake which is a wonderful lake. This is no site for people who don’t like to have a good time. There is a tremendous hiking trail close to J B White Lake called the Uwharrie Jeep Trail, and at J B White Lake Dam in close proximity to J B White Lake there are some out of the ordinary things to see.

Banjo Creek RV Resort & Campground is located in Asheboro, NC, home of the NC Zoological Park (The NC Zoo). Also nearby are trail heads of the Uwharrie National Forest, The World Class Potters of Seagrove, and the Uwharrie River.

Banjo Creek Resort features 140 full and partial hook up sites for RVs, and several tent sites as well. The Little River runs along one side of the park, and walking trails are throughout our 33 acres. We also have a stocked fishing pond. Other amenities include a Jumping Pillow, a swimming pool, a kiddie pool, miniature golf, community campfires, a 2800 sq. Ft. Deck at the lodge (for dances and other music events), Country Store, game room, WiFi, weekend activities, and on Saturday mornings we have ''The Best Breakfast in Camping. ''

My wife and I decided to give this route a try, and we found that a couple of miles down river from the put-in site, there is a big dam that is at least 20 feet tall with no way around it.  We ended up walking 2 miles back to the car to come pick up our kayaks.  When we got home we looked at satellite pictures using google maps and it looks like there are 2 more dams before you would reach the take out site.  I do NOT recommend this route. Paddlers beware!...

Uwharrie River

...way high flowing over the bridge at Low River bridge on SR 1301, our putin point. With the water that high the current was swift with a lot of low lying trees dwarfing the banks. We no sooner put in and the second canoe got caught in the current and capsized. We in the third were unable to upright it before it became lodged between two trees with the current making it impossible to free it. We were able to recover the two boys and rejoin with the first canoe which had continued on downstream. Long and short of our adventure we all made it to Morrow Mtn State Park in about 5 hours time in two canoes (11:30 AM - 4:30 PM). We stayed to the center of the river as much as possible and negotiated the rapids without mishap. It was very unpredictable with alot of unsuspecting trees in the middle of the river (sumerged islands). We then returned to Low River Bridge to recover the lost canoe. The water was now some four to five feet lower clearing the bridge. With much of the pressure of the current on the canoe now gone we were able to free it and get it out of the river.
