Yadkin River is a great whitewater spot right next door to Hill Top Lake; if the weather is brilliant, you can go for a hike along the Cascade Trail. Hiking along the Cooks Wall Trail is splendid fun. If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Dan River, and why not camp at Tanglewood Family Resort since you're here at Hill Top Lake.
