     You'll locate a charming lake called Willow Pond near Herring Pond; Long Creek Family Campground is a magnificent local campground. All the outdoors fun stuff close to Herring Pond will keep you coming back persistently. There's splendid hiking along the Neusiok Trail; if you need a location to stay Comfort Inn Morehead City is a great choice. Throughout the warmest time of the year at Herring Pond temperatures are regularly in the 80's. During the dark hours  
   of summer temperatures fall down into the 70's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Herring Pond fall into the 30's. Hardy Creek is near Herring Pond and is always a joy to visit.
Don't forget to stop at Horton Bay since you're here at Herring Pond; a trip to Cape Lookout National Seashore is recommended. This lake is so wonderful. You're sure to come across some
 
               good people from Morehead City here; Herring Pond is a great place to visit for more than one day, Bay River Campground-Marina is a great place to camp nearby. Herring Pond sees pretty high levels of precipitation; July is the month that gets the most rain, and November is the month with the least moisture.

...om our campground in approximately 15 minutes or by boat on the Bay River in 25 minutes.

You can drop a line in the water off our pier over the Bay River and catch any number of varieties of fish such as: mullet, spot, flounder, mackerel, spotted trout, croaker or drop your net or bait on a string and catch blue crabs or whatever is in season at the time of your visit.

To name a few of our local residents we have: bluebirds all year round in great numbers along with cardinals, brown headed nuthatches, yellow throats, pine warblers, red-headed woodpeckers, brown pelicans, great blue herons, American bitterns, eastern kingbirds, and a pair of pileated woodpeckers. During the summer months the emerald and ruby-throated hummingbirds are flying from mimosa to crepe myrtle to pipe vines creeping on the tall pine trees throughout the campground.
