Do check out Causey Lake right next door to Hackett Lake, it's a pretty lake. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Deep River, and a great close by hotel is Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites GREENSBORO-EAST. If you have a thing about the outdoors, you'll love Hackett Lake. While you're here at Hackett Lake, you could also go to pretty Joseph Allred Lake, and camping is available at Greensboro Campground. Get soaked paddling on Reedy Fork Creek, and if you're interested in hydro
structures, you can explore Causey Lake Dam. Hackett Lake gets lots of water; July is the month that gets the most rain; April on the other hand is the driest.

My wife and I decided to give this route a try, and we found that a couple of miles down river from the put-in site, there is a big dam that is at least 20 feet tall with no way around it. We ended up walking 2 miles back to the car to come pick up our kayaks. When we got home we looked at satellite pictures using google maps and it looks like there are 2 more dams before you would reach the take out site. I do NOT recommend this route. Paddlers beware!... |
