If you need a location to       stay Howard Johnson Inn is a magnificent choice; Gum Lake is not the only place nearby, Bellamy Lake is a nearby lake. For the duration of the summertime at Gum Lake temperatures are usually in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are usually in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Gum Lake temperatures plunge to the 20's. Going for a hike on the Summit Loop Trail is                  always a delightful adventure, and Gum Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Enfield/Rocky Mount KOA is a great local campground. Lots of people from Rocky Mount come to Gum Lake, and there's whitewater on Tar River for all you adrenaline junkies. This lake is so wonderful. Playing golf is lots of fun at Hickory Meadows Golf Course, unsurprisingly you could also explore Bellamys Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. There's so much to do here at Gum Lake that you need to camp here for a while, KOA Campgrounds is a great site for that, and don't leave Gum Lake without first going for a hike along the Discovery Loop Trail. The high level of rain makes Gum Lake a quite wet place; most of the rain falls during August; April is when it's the driest.   Quality Inn Battleboro, Battleboro 6 miles away Half way between New York and Florida.
