     Grandmother Lake is always a pleasure to visit. The Daniel Boone Scout Trail is a good hiking trail near Grandmother Lake, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Appalachian Mountain. Grandmother Lake is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And if that's not enough there's loads more exciting stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Grandmother Lake is in the neighborhood of Grandmother Dam which is a beautiful place undeniably worth visiting,  
   and after a long day outdoors Beech Mountain Inns is a great spot to spend a night or two.
This lake is so wonderful. Near Grandmother Lake you come across the Yancey Ridge Trail which is a brilliant hiking trail, and if the weather is delightful, you acquire a nice vista of Beacon Heights from Grandmother Lake. You definitely should have a thing about Grandmother Lake. There are plenty of folks from Boone here at Grandmother Lake; if you're here, you could have
 
               a look at Big Grassy Creek. You think that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Grandfather Campground and Cabins is a good local campground, and you can hit the slopes at Hawksnest nearby.
Now, you may imagine that's a lot but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You need to take a look at Linville Bluffs since you're here at Grandmother Lake; there are some brilliant whitewater spots on North Harper Creek. This lake is so wonderful. A magnificent location in close proximity to Grandmother Lake is Deep Gap, and you're most likely addicted to lakes, Grandfather Mountain Lake is one of those nearby.
This lake is so wonderful. Best Western Mountain Lodge At Banner Elk is a great spot to get some rest, and playing golf is lots of fun at Mountain Glen Golf Club. Whohoo, so many cool things in one place! The Blue Ridge Mountains rocks! If you came for an overnight stay Down By The River Campground is a good place to camp; going for a hike on the Laurel Fork Trail is always a splendid adventure. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Lost Cove Creek. Lakes are wonderful; Lake Kawahna is a lake that's near Grandmother Lake.
Grandmother Lake generally gets a great deal of rainfall; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Grandmother Lake. During the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's with temperatures at Grandmother Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.

Not normally hikers, and middle aged, this trail was a killer. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful, but we were worn out. We ran into a copperhead, twice, once on the way up, and again on the way down. Apparently he was guarding his territory. The falls weren't as full as we hoped, but there has been a lack of rain in this area. The trail in some area's were a bit rough, steep, and dangerous, but at least we can say we made it....

Springmaid Mountain

Springmaid Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. Even if you don't like camping they also have cabins. If you go camping, try going in the off season. We went in Sept. 05 and we basically had the campground to ourselves! Even if others were in the campground, the sites are spaced apart. Its a great getaway....
