    Go to Grandfather Mountain Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. Whitewater paddling is nice on Lost Cove Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Nearby lakes? Sure, Inver Lochy Lake is in close proximity to Grandfather Mountain Lake; Grandfather Mountain Lake Lake Dam is charming. So many enjoyable things next to Grandfather Mountain Lake, simply unbelievable. Skiing at Hawksnest is one of those things you just have to do; a glorious spot to camp here at Grandfather  
   Mountain Lake is Down By The River Campground.
On a wonderful day you acquire a view of Brier Knob from Grandfather Mountain Lake, and why not take a look at nearby Big Grassy Creek since you're here at Grandfather Mountain Lake. This lake is so wonderful. A round of golf at nearby Mountain Glen Golf Club is a pleasant way to kill some time, and if you've had enough of Grandfather Mountain Lake, Grandmother Lake is nearby. Have a great hiking adventure along
 
               the Daniel Boone Scout Trail, and camping is available at Grandfather Campground and Cabins.
While you're here at Grandfather Mountain Lake you will meet lots of people from nearby Boone, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Yancey Ridge Trail. Yep, outdoors cool things to do are in fact bountiful here at Grandfather Mountain Lake. A cool spot to visit near Grandfather Mountain Lake is Flattop Cliffs; dry warm beds await you at Best Western Mountain Lodge At Banner Elk. Get wet paddling on Gragg Prong River, and on a wonderful day you can take a hike along the Laurel Fork Trail.

All through the warm days of summer at Grandfather Mountain Lake temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Grandfather Mountain Lake. Grandfather Mountain Lake is a wet spot that gets lots of rain; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is December.

Laurel Fork Trail

Not normally hikers, and middle aged, this trail was a killer. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful, but we were worn out. We ran into a copperhead, twice, once on the way up, and again on the way down. Apparently he was guarding his territory. The falls weren't as full as we hoped, but there has been a lack of rain in this area. The trail in some area's were a bit rough, steep, and dangerous, but at least we can say we made it....

Springmaid Mountain

Springmaid Mountain is a beautiful place to visit. Even if you don't like camping they also have cabins. If you go camping, try going in the off season. We went in Sept. 05 and we basically had the campground to ourselves! Even if others were in the campground, the sites are spaced apart. Its a great getaway....
