The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while Fontana Lake nighttime low temperatures all through the winter are in the 20's. Fontana Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; during March this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is October. This lake is so wonderful. If you're here, you might as well go to Bee Cove, and       you can stay the night at Cable Cove Campground. So much fun stuff to do in the Great Smoky Mountains, not enough time. In case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cheoah River, and Microtel Inn and Suites Robbinsville is a pleasant place to get some rest. You assume that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Bee Cove Knob can be observed from Fontana Lake, and after a long day outdoors Highland Manor Inn And                  Conference Center is a fine site to spend a night or two. Getting to Augerhole Branch from Fontana Lake is easy, and you're probably addicted to lakes, Leonard Phillips Lake is one of those nearby. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Fontana Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Fontana Village Resort is a wonderful location for that, and if you've had enough of Fontana Lake, Santeetlah Lake is nearby. Fontana Dam is a place that is close to Fontana Lake, and there's great hiking along the Russell Field Trail. Don't leave Fontana Lake without first going for a hike along the Long Hungry Ridge Trail. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Good hiking is available along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and Yellow Creek is a brilliant whitewater spot close by.
