    Do stop by Cones Lake while you're in this part of North Carolina. A day on the slopes of Appalachian Mountain is just what you need, and after a long day outdoors The Village Inn is a brilliant spot to spend a night or two. Cones Lake is a reasonably wet place mostly with a large amount of rainfall; most of the rain falls during May, and the driest month of the year is December. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things at Cones  
   Lake.
The skiing at Hawksnest is good, and dry warm beds await you at Roaring River Chalets. Looking for something in close proximity to Cones Lake? Bass Lake is close by, and whitewater paddling is good on Yadkin River. If you want a good time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Cones Lake. A great place to camp here at Cones Lake is Boone KOA, of course you could also stop at Chetola Lake if you're here; it's not far at all.

               of entertaining things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A magnificent place to explore near Cones Lake is Kirby Gap; while you're here you can take a hike along the Yancey Ridge Trail. So much exciting stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, too pleasant to be true. Cones Lake is glorious enough to spend more than a day at, Mulberry Campground is a glorious local campground; during your trip here you'll meet some folks from Boone for sure. This lake is so wonderful. On a tremendous day at Cones Lake you can take a hike along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Silvervale Falls.
This lake is one of the great places here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. At Cones Lake throughout the summertime highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Cones Lake temperatures dip to the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. Bailey Camp Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth visiting; if you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Thunderhole Creek.
