Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take a look at close by City Lake, and a nice close by hotel is Doubletree Hotel Rocky Mount. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Discovery Loop Trail is splendid fun. Coley Pond is a pretty wet place mostly with lots of rain; the month with most of the rain is August; the driest of       the months is April. There's always Coley Pond Dam to explore near Coley Pond, and if you came for an overnight stay Kamper's Lodge Of America is a great spot to camp. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at KOA Campgrounds, and getting to Pig Basket Creek from Coley Pond is trouble-free. High temperatures at Coley Pond throughout the summer months are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 60's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets                  highs in the 40's with temperatures at Coley Pond dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. You can run the rapids of Tar River right next door to Coley Pond, and Coley Pond is right by the Stream Loop Trail. Whohoo, so much enjoyable stuff in one place! Coley Pond is unbeatable!
