Little Dan River is a fine local stream; while you're here you can take a hike along the Cooks Wall Trail. If you come to this lake you will have a good time for sure. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Big Dan Lake has to offer, you can camp at Meadows Of Dan Campground; dry warm beds await you at Quality Inn & Suites. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Big Dan Lake. Summer       nighttime lows drop down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are generally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Big Dan Lake. Have a splendid hiking adventure along the Moores Knob Trail, and Dan River has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot nearby. Big Dan Lake is a delightful site to camp, Moores Springs Campground on the Dan River is a delightful site; there are plenty of people from Mount Airy here at Big Dan Lake. Big Dan                  Lake is a good location of typical rainfall; May is when you get the most rain here, and January is when it's the driest. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun stuff at Big Dan Lake.
