If you need a location to stay Best Western Mammoth Hot Springs is a fine choice, and close by you locate the Sportsman Lake Trail which is a delightful hiking trail. It is very dried up here at Yankee Jim Lake typically; May is when you get the most rain here while February is commonly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. There's whitewater on Mulherin Creek for all you thrill seekers, and do stop at Cottonwood Creek while you're here at Yankee Jim Lake. This lake is so wonderful. A delightful close by hotel is Yellowstone Park North Travelodge; going for a hike on the Pole Gulch Trail is always a great adventure.
