Thompson Lake is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. Thompson Lake is a location that is reasonably dried out regularly; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Castle Rock Inn while you're here at Thompson Lake, and lakes are such peaceful sites, why not visit Chilled Lakes. Now, you may believe that's a lot but there's
even more amusing stuff to do here at Thompson Lake. A charming lake like Summit Lake right next door to Thompson Lake is a pleasant location to stop by; on a great day you can take a hike along the Eldridge Trail.
Everybody loves Bear Basin. If you come at the right time of year, Gallatin River offers some great whitewater, and Thompson Lake is not far at all from Bozeman. Very striking scenery and great skiing is what you get at Big Sky; there is a nice hiking

trail nearby called the Wapiti Creek Trail.
If you need a site to stay Beaverhead is a great choice; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Moonlight Basin while you're here. Summer at Thompson Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Thompson Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Arrowhead is a good site to spend a night or two, and the Lightning Creek Trail is a good hiking trail nearby.
Elkhorn is a glorious local campground, and Gallatin Peak is a peak you can spot from Thompson Lake.
