There are good places to explore along the Cutoff Trail, and a lake nearby is Wade Lake. Summertime highs at Smith Lake generally tend to be in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. Highs all through the wintertime are typically in the 30's while Smith Lake nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's. Stay the night at Madison Campground,       and why not a little side trip to Bogus Creek. Get your pulse rate up on the good whitewater of Madison River, and Jackpine Gulch is a pleasant spot to spend some time. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Gazelle Creek Pack Trail is always a fine adventure, and Wade Lake Bench is an attention-grabbing spot to take a look at while at Smith Lake. If you want a magnificent time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Smith Lake. You'll need                  more than a day to look at everything Smith Lake has to offer, you can camp at West Fork Campground, and a pleasant place for whitewater paddling is Madison River. Smith Lake is not the only place nearby, Secret Lakes is a nearby lake, and close by you stumble on the Dry Fork Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. Not much rain falls here at Smith Lake; the wettest month of the year is generally June, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is February. This lake is so wonderful.
