This lake is one of the great places here in the Lewis Range. An average amount of precipitation falls at Shelf Lake; the month with most of the snow is January, and the driest of the months is July. During the long summer days highs here at Shelf Lake get into the 80's, and the night is somewhat cooler of course, generally in the 40's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in       the 30's with temperatures at Shelf Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Milk Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth going to, and there is a good hiking trail close by called the Green Mountain Trail. This lake is so wonderful. The sight of Gunsight Peak from Shelf Lake is beautiful; if the weather is tremendous, you can go for a hike along the Gunsight Trail. If you came for an overnight stay Beaver Creek Campground is                  a tremendous place to camp; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Flathead River - Middle Fork. All the outdoors entertaining things in the Lewis Range will keep you coming back over and over. Spotted Bear Campground is a brilliant campground nearby, and the Spotted Bear Schafer Trail is a great hiking trail close by. Having a good time at Shelf Lake is easy.
