There are some tremendous whitewater spots on Salmon River, and a good place is Fourth of July Gulch. All the outdoors       exciting stuff in the Bitterroot Range will keep you coming back many times. Black Creek is a beautiful stream that is worth stopping at, and camping is available at Little Boulder Bay Campground. At Painted Rocks Lake all through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Painted Rocks Lake temperatures fall to the                  10's. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Bitterroot Range. The snow is great at Lost Trail, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Slate Lake. This lake is so wonderful. This is a pleasant area for folks who like lakes. Piquett Lake is a lake in close proximity, and you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Old Nez Perce Indian Trail. Why not visit West Fork Dam if you're here, and the vista of charming Slate Point is great. The Bitterroot Range scenery is always beautiful. Having a pleasant time at Painted Rocks Lake is uncomplicated.
