McClain Lake is a nice lake to visit. This lake is so wonderful. Lolo-Days Inn Missoula South/Blue Mountain is a wonderful place to get some rest; a striking lake like Carlton Lake is a wonderful spot to pop by. McClain Lake is located in the Bitterroot Range. This lake is so wonderful. McClain Lake is typically a pretty dried up location; most of the rain falls during May, and the driest month is October. If you come at the right time of year, Kootenai Creek

| | offers some nice whitewater. There's so much to do here at McClain Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Fort Fizzle Campground is a great site for that. Just can't get enough of the Bitterroot Range. The vista of Sweeney Peak from McClain Lake is wonderful, and tremendous hiking is available along the Carlton Lake Trail. Street, and if you came to camp Square Dance Center and Campground is a great place to do that. That right there is a lot already, but it continues; McClain Lake has it all. Hiking is a popular thing to do around McClain Lake; Sweeney
Ridge Trail is a pleasant local trail, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Mill Creek. For the duration of the summertime months at McClain Lake temperatures are commonly in the 80's,
and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at McClain Lake temperatures sink to the 10's. The Mill Creek Trail offers hiking at its best, and Little Carlton Lake is a good lake close by.

Tag Alder Lake
 | 18 miles away I venture up to Tag Alder every year. It is getting more and more difficult to get up there because of the new growth of trees from the fires of 2000. Once there it is beautiful lake. Another half hour hike up and you will be at the summit of the mountain. There is a nice camp area on North shore. Fishing is best in late spring using small spinners or powerbait.... |
