If you came for an overnight stay Monture Creek Campground is a good site to camp, and you can run the rapids of Blackfoot River. This lake is so wonderful. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Lewis Range. After a long day outdoors Rodeway Inn Deer Lodge is a splendid place to spend a night or two; you can go for a hike on the Center Ridge Trail.       High temperatures at James Lake during the summer are in the 80's while night lows are frequently in the 40's. Highs during the winter are commonly in the 20's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at James Lake plunge into the 0's. The Lewis Range scenery is always beautiful. You imagine that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Russell Gates Memorial Campground is a brilliant local campground, and don't leave James Lake without first                  going for a hike along the Dunham Trail. But wait, there's more cool stuff to do in the Lewis Range. Looking for something close to James Lake? Mud Lake is in the neighborhood; a brilliant place for whitewater paddling is Blackfoot River - North Fork. James Lake is a location that is relatively waterless commonly; the month of January is the wettest with most of the snow, and the driest of the months is July. This lake is so wonderful.
