One of the major features of the surroundings of High Lake is Canyon Peak, and camping is available at Schumaker Campground. There are nice sites to explore along the Trapper Peak Trail, and there are some brilliant whitewater spots on White Sand Creek. At High Lake through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's; the overnight is fairly chillier of course, ordinarily in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's       with temperatures at High Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing things at High Lake. Going for a hike on the Saint Mary Peak Trail is always a magnificent adventure, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Big Sand Creek. Man, is there lots of enjoyable things to do in the Bitterroot Range. You'll hit upon a beautiful lake called Wyant Lake                  near High Lake, and if you need a site to stay Townhouse Inn of Hamilton is a wonderful choice. Dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Hamilton, and High Lake Dam has magnificent water scenery. The Bitterroot Range scenery is always beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. Near High Lake you find the Ward Mountain Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail, and camping at Blodgett Canyon Campground is always a glorious experience. You truly have to adore the Bitterroot Range. Lakes are such serene places, why not stop by Lomo Lake right next door to High Lake, and Lost Trail is a glorious local ski area.
