Elk Lake is one of the lakes here in the Cabinet Mountains. A pleasant site to check out right next door to Elk Lake is Miners Gulch, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Elk Lake; Himes Creek Trail is a good       local trail. This lake is so wonderful. The Allen Peak Trail offers hiking at its best, and it's a tremendous idea to stop at Grouse Creek. Elk Lake is a location that is rather dry mostly; during November this area sees the most rain while August is generally the driest month. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Cabinet Mountains. Why not camp at Lake Creek Campground since you're here at Elk Lake; there are some good whitewater spots on Vermilion                  River. Looking for something in the vicinity of Elk Lake? Grouse Lake is close at hand; from Elk Lake you get a glorious vista of Allen Peak. This lake is so wonderful. Through the summer, highs frequently are in the 80's at Elk Lake. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are frequently in the 30's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Elk Lake fall into the 10's.
