One of the dominant traits of the surroundings of Desolation Lake is Crazy Mountain. Snail Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to. There's so much to do here at Desolation Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Lake Creek Campground is a nice site for that. Desolation Lake is a beautiful lake in the Absaroka Range. So much fun stuff to do at Desolation       Lake, so little time. Very lovely scenery and good skiing is what you get at Red Lodge Mountain, and there are delightful spots to discover along the Lake Reno Trail. If you want a nice time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Absaroka Range. If you get bored of Desolation Lake, you could also go to nearby Planaria Lake; going for a hike on the Copeland Lake Trail is always a pleasant adventure. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Desolation                  Lake; during June this area sees the most rain while October is usually the driest month. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Desolation Lake. During the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 30's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Desolation Lake temperatures descend to the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. A tremendous spot for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Desolation Lake is Clarks Fork Yellowstone River; close by you hit upon the Crazy Mountain Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail.
