If you are in Lewis and Clark county it's always a good idea to stop by Chessman Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Bear Gulch Trail is always a wonderful adventure, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out close by Park Lake. If you're visiting Chessman Reservoir from Helena, you won't be the only one, and of course, this is a tremendous neighborhood for people who like lakes, Chessman Reservoir is a lake

Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Chessman Reservoir fall into the 10's. Great Northern Hotel is a brilliant place to spend a night or two. There is a magnificent hiking trail next to Chessman Reservoir called the Sweeney Creek Ecology Trail. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Great Divide is near Chessman
Reservoir, and you ought to undeniably dedicate some time to Black Hall Meadows if you're here at Chessman Reservoir. This lake is so wonderful. You can spot Colorado Mountain from Chessman Reservoir; camping is available at Tenmile
Campground. So many exciting things to do here at Chessman Reservoir, too nice to be true. Dry warm beds await you at Jorgenson Inn and Suite, and camping at Park Lake Campground is always a great experience. Around Chessman Reservoir
you don’t get a lot of rain; through the month of May you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. A splendid place for whitewater paddling near Chessman Reservoir is Boulder River, and Chessman Main Dam is a place that is next to Chessman Reservoir.

 | 15 miles away ...mountain is large & diverse with 140 trails, bowls & glades on 3 mountain peaks and three different valleys covering more than 1500 acres of terrain. From atop The Continental Divide several other mountain ranges, lakes, and valleys are displayed in vistas stretching for nearly 100 miles. Helena is just 23 miles and Great Falls only 95 miles via I-15 Exit #200. For a ''local'' ski area, Great Divide is enormous. Finding powder three days after a storm is not uncommon. The management's prominent signage stating ''DO NOT SKI ALONE....IF YOU BECOME INJURED OR ILL WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FIND YOU'' Bears ominous testimony to the complex network of trails and the seemingly endless glades that coined the local phrase ''ski-all terrain''.
