Looking for something in the vicinity       of Carter Lake? McKinley Lake is close at hand; you'll meet a lot of people from Missoula here. All through the months of summer at Carter Lake highs are ordinarily in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 40's. Highs throughout the winter are commonly in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Carter Lake. Not much rainfall falls here at Carter Lake; most of the rain falls throughout June, and February                  is when it's the driest. And that's not all you can do here at Carter Lake. Blue Slide Campground is a delightful local campground, and skiing at Montana Snowbowl is one of those things you just ought to do. Very charming scenery and nice skiing is what you get at Marshall Mountain, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Carter Lake; Blue Mountain Equestrian and Hiking Trail is a nice local trail.
