     Put some time aside to spend at Akaiyan Falls if you're here at Avalanche Lake, and nearby Comeau Pass is a good place to go. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Lewis Range. While you're here at Avalanche Lake, you could also pop by delightful Upper Snyder Lake, and if you have time, Glacier National Park is a national park worth taking a look at. This lake is so wonderful. Some of the water nearby flows, like Hidden Creek; you can go for a  
   hike on the Gunsight Pass Trail.
Avalanche Lake is a good place to visit for more than one day, Sprague Creek Campground is a good place to camp nearby, and get your pulse rate up on the nice whitewater of Flathead River - Middle Fork. Now, you may assume that's heaps but there's even more amusing stuff to do here at Avalanche Lake. Gem Lake is a nearby lake that you could pop by; going for a hike on the Snyder Lake Trail is always a great adventure. This
 
               lake is located in the wonderful Lewis Range.
The amount of rainfall that falls at Avalanche Lake is close to the national average; December is when you get the most snow here while April is commonly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Near Avalanche Lake you discover the Avalanche Trail which is a delightful hiking trail; if you need a site to stay Super 8 Motel - Glacier Park/Columbia Falls is a brilliant choice. The summit of Bearhat Mountain can be seen from Avalanche Lake.
Summer brings highs in the 70's to Avalanche Lake. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 40's. Through the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Avalanche Lake are in the 10's. So many exciting things to do in the Lewis Range, not enough time. Avalanche Basin is a tremendous place to stretch your legs a bit; Avalanche Campground is a fine local campground.

Fabulously beautiful area, dense grizzly population and zero people.  Not too hard to get to crossing Flattop on bits of an obsolete trail from Fifty Mountain, then skirt along the open hills sides near Trapper Peak.  One scary steep hardpan ravine must be crossed where a slip would send you plunging 1000 feet down to Lake Nahsukin.  An axe would be helpful, otherwise just run real fast so your momentum will carry you to good footing on the far side....
