A great boating lake...BUT have EVERYTHING LEGAL!!! They don't play...BOAT,TRUCK,TRAILER, AND ALL EQUIPMENT. Yes they seem to go too far...but they only follow the rules. This is a DEEP lake, and as far as the swim area goes...inside the large swim ares is great, but beyond the area it does drop off... There is a little |
safe area past the markers just not alot. Parents be advised. I have checked with my boats depth finder. There is lots of safe swimming to be ebjoyed here. Be smart and enjoy. Says Eddie Cagle
Nothing unsafe about swim area.
| Me and my 3 kids swim there often. There are always hazards being around water. No unsafe drop offs that I have found. Says Mike
I have been out to the lake swimming with my two boy which are 4 and 5 and I did not come across a 50 ft drop off at the five ft marker or a 75 ft drop off at the bouies.. We played all around that 5 ft. marker and my sister went out to the bouies and did not find a 75 ft drop off she is about 5'7'' and could touch the bottom | |

Mississippi HAWG!!! Says Bo Jangles
Make sure you review all laws and follow slot limits for fishing. My grandsons (10 years and 14 years) dad was issued 2 tickets. One for 1/8 out of slot limit and 1 for the 14 year old backing
boat into lake while his dad directed him. Says Bonnie
Paying to look is ridiculouse. Another MS ripoff that keeps us on the bottom. Says POed
The lake is great but the bank fishing is not to great. But as far as boat
fishing, it is awesome .. You will catch most fish on the south end. Says Jim

A friend of mine from out of town came down for Easter weekend. He had never seen the Lake Okhissa, and I thought that it would make a good ride for our motorcycles. The day was beautiful, but
the lake was another story. When we arrived, there were two sherrif's officers and a wildlife offical at the gate. We stopped to ask if we could ride thru just to look. We were informed that it would cost $5.00 to just look. This
is silly! We were not fishing or staying for any length of time. The visiting friend is a police officer in another town. It was quite a rude ordeal! Says ????
I have been to the lake about 10 times now and it has been an awesome
trip everytime i have gone. If you love bass fishing you will love this place. Ive caught some nice bass out of this lake. I will defently go back as much as possible. Says Kyle
From what I hear, there is over 30 miles of shoreline
to fish. My 11 yr. old son and my stepfather and I are going to try it on Good Friday. We may get skunked, but we're going. Says Bpinson
My daughter, mother and I went to the lake 3-15-08. We had heard so much about the new
lake. To be honest we were very disappointed. We did not even find cause to get out of the car. We road through the entire park and stll could not find anything to do. From what we could see, unless you have a boat there is nothing
else to do. There is no swim area, swings, or anything for the children to do. We found it to be a waste of time and money. Says Kristal
It is Beautiful! I am excited to see when they finish with the creational facilites. I
found out you can get a yearly pass for fifty bucks. Cant wait to spend a good bit of time in the summer with the kids fishing!!! Says Carmen Wilkinson
There are several campgrounds near Lake Okhissa. One just south of the
highway 98 entrance to the lake is located at ''Klene's Bait Shop'' ( tele # 601-532-6278 ) and does not allow tents. Another is ''Homochitto Hide-Away'' and is located off 84 highway and the first right turn after crossing the Homochitto
River bridge while traveling west. It has full hookups, full hot water baths, fish cleaning and deer cleaning stations all for $10/night. The third and the best known is the ''Clear Springs Campground'', located within the Homochitto
National Forest, west and south of Meadville and can be visited online thru Homochitto National Forest.com. Says J Bryant
Okhissa Lake will host a fishing tourney on February 16-17, 2008. Visit www.okhissalake.com for more
details. While there visit our blog. Says Gary Smith
Nov. 7th was opening day of fishing on Lake Okhissa and many fishermen harvested a legal limit of largemouth bass within the first hour....! Several 8 pounders were caught
and released in almost each major cove. The 39 miles of shoreline left me awed as to how long I would stay when I next returned here fishing.... The catfish were biting artificial worms often as soon as they hit the water. For a $5.oo
entry per vehicle per day, it is a great deal. The Forest service people were very helpful, friendly, and informative as many had participated in the construction of the lake. Checking out the map of the lake will leave you anxious
to make that first cast. A 3.5 pound bass answered mine... There is not at this time camping areas of any kind on this lake area. There is one about 10 miles away and on the Nat'l Forest west and south of Meadville, called Sandy Springs
Campground and requires a fee.. I've heard of a commercial campground south of the lake entrance and still trying to contact it at this time... This lake is in the same area of Mississippi which holds the #1 and #2 spot on the states
bass records list... The future of this lake producing a larger record bass is, I think, a sure thing; and sooner than you might think. Says Johnny Bryant
This pleasant lake has 39 miles of shoreline and 1000 acres of surface area.
