Bpinson:
From what I hear, there is over 30 miles of shoreline to fish. My 11 yr. old son and my stepfather and I are going to try it on Good Friday. We may get skunked, but we're going.

Kristal:
My daughter, mother and I went to the lake 3-15-08. We had heard so much about the new lake. To be honest we were very disappointed. We did not even find cause to get out of the car. We road through the entire park and stll could not find anything to do. From what we could see, unless you have a boat there is nothing else to do. There is no swim area, swings, or anything for the children to do. We found it to be a waste of time and money.

Carmen Wilkinson:
It is Beautiful! I am excited to see when they finish with the creational facilites. I found out you can get a yearly pass for fifty bucks. Cant wait to spend a good bit of time in the summer with the kids fishing!!!

There are several campgrounds near Lake Okhissa.  One just south of the highway 98 entrance to the lake is located at ''Klene's Bait Shop'' ( tele # 601-532-6278 ) and does not allow tents.  Another is ''Homochitto Hide-Away'' and is located off 84 highway and the first right turn after crossing the Homochitto River bridge while traveling west.  It has full hookups, full hot water baths, fish cleaning and deer cleaning stations all for $10/night.  The third and the best known is the ''Clear Springs Campground'', located within the Homochitto National Forest, west and south of Meadville and can be visited online thru Homochitto National Forest.com.

Nov. 7th was opening day of fishing on Lake Okhissa and many fishermen harvested a legal limit of largemouth bass within the first hour....!  Several 8 pounders were caught and released in almost each major cove.  The 39 miles of shoreline left me awed as to how long I would stay when I next returned here fishing....   The catfish were biting artificial worms often as soon as they hit the water.   For a $5.oo entry per vehicle per day, it is a great deal.  The Forest service people were very helpful, friendly, and informative as many had participated in the construction of the lake.  Checking out the map of the lake will leave you anxious to make that first cast.  A 3.5 pound bass answered mine...   There is not at this time camping areas of any kind on this lake area.  There is one about 10 miles away and on the Nat'l Forest west and south of Meadville, called Sandy Springs Campground and requires a fee..   I've heard of a commercial campground south of the lake entrance and still trying to contact it at this time...   This lake is in the same area of Mississippi which holds the #1 and #2 spot on the states bass records list...  The future of this lake producing a larger record bass is, I think, a sure thing; and sooner than you might think.
