     Cedar Creek is a fine whitewater spot right next door to Uhlmeyer Lake, and do take a look at Crooked Creek since you're here at Uhlmeyer Lake. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Comfort Inn Canton is a brilliant choice. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Uhlmeyer Lake has to offer, you can camp at Camp Hickory Haven. A splendid site for whitewater paddling in the neighborhood of Uhlmeyer Lake is Bear Creek, and you can stay  
   the night at Hickory Haven Campground. A delightful nearby hotel is Fairfield Inn Keokuk, and Uhlmeyer Lake Dam is pretty.
Be careful coming to Uhlmeyer Lake, you might not ever want to return home again. You'll stumble on a gorgeous lake called Marks Lake near Uhlmeyer Lake; Uhlmeyer Lake is not far at all from Quincy. Do check out Willer Lake Section 32 close to Uhlmeyer Lake, it's a lovely lake. Uhlmeyer Lake gets a common amount of annual precipitation; July
 
               is when you get the most rain here, and February is the month with the least moisture.
For the duration of the summertime at Uhlmeyer Lake highs are mostly in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's, and overnight lows at Uhlmeyer Lake during the winter frequently fall into the 10's.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago....
