If you are traveling by, why not stop by Sylvan Lake. Get your pulse rate up on the good whitewater of North River, and there's perfect hiking along the Lick Creek Trail. Dry warm beds await you at Garth Woodside Mansion BNB, and Salt River Campground is a fine local campground. This lake is so wonderful. A tremendous place for whitewater paddling next to Sylvan Lake is Cedar Creek.

| | get some rest; you'll possibly meet some folks from Hannibal here. Hillbillys Campground & Genera is a wonderful campground nearby, and perhaps you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Lake Hannibal is just a very short distance away. Gentry Dam has perfect water scenery and it's next to Sylvan Lake, and if you've had enough of Sylvan Lake, Central Stone County Lake is close by.

would be. An afternoon playing golf at Jackson Park Golf Course is always a pleasure, and perfect hiking is available along the Hickory Bluff Trail. The amount of rain that falls at Sylvan Lake is close to the national average; through
the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February. Summertime at Sylvan Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Daytime highs through
the winter are in the 30's with temperatures at Sylvan Lake dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out.
