    Smith Lake is a lake worth visiting. Life's too short to enjoy all the exciting stuff right next door to Smith Lake. A tremendous site to camp here at Smith Lake is Pine Grove Village MHP; close to Smith Lake you find a golf course called Lake of the Woods Golf Course. This lake is so wonderful. Super 8 Columbia/Lake Of The Woods is a glorious place to get some rest, and delightful water scenery is available at Smith Lake Dam in close proximity to Smith Lake.  
   Smith Lake gets a typical amount of rainfall; May is the wettest month with most rain while January is generally the driest month.
Dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Columbia - Regional Hospital A, and you're sure to run into some good folks from Columbia here. Go for a hike on the Cedar Creek Hiking Trail. Do check out Waters Edge Estates Lake close to Smith Lake, it's a picturesque lake, and whitewater paddling is great on Hinkson Creek.
 
               Camping is available at Cottonwoods RV Park, and while you're here, you could also explore charming Hagan Lake. Summer at Smith Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Smith Lake.

There is a gage at Providence Rd, you can check water levels at this link: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=06910230&agency_cd=USGS My unladen solo canoe can scoot by at 30cfs, any less than that and I'm dragging. ...As of 6/18/2008, there is nowhere near enough water in the stream at the put-in (or much of the rest of the stream) for any kind of paddle-craft....This is a fun, after work run when the water is moving. There are no defined rapids, although there are several modest playspots: 1)S-Turn, near the back of the Walmart site, and 2) The Ultimate Surfing Wave which is downstream from the Old 63 bridge. Hazards include two low water crossings in the Stephens Golf Course. Portage is highly recommended at high water as the crossings act as low head dams. Water quality in the Spring can be an issue and several boaters in years past have contracted leptosporosis (aka lepto) from involuntarily ingesting the water. Mostly the Hink' is a fun float on moving water with enough wave action and eddys to keep things interesting. Suitable for canoes and kayaks. ...
