If you are traveling by, why not stop by Shanty Bend Pond. Not far from Shanty Bend Pond you obtain some fine water scenery at Lock and Dam Number Twenty-one, and playing golf is lots of fun at Westview Golf Course. Camping at Bayview Campers Park is always a fine experience, and a lake nearby is Big Lake. Swamps don’t sound that brilliant but Crooked Slough close to Shanty Bend Pond is reasonably brilliant, and people from Quincy love to come here. Dry warm

| | beds await you at Microtel Quincy, and if you came to camp Valley View Mobile Home Park is a great spot to do that. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Cedar Creek offers some great whitewater; why not stop at close by Fabius River since you're here at Shanty Bend Pond. lows at Shanty Bend Pond during the winter regularly plunge into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater spots on North River. So much amusing stuff to do at Shanty Bend Pond, so little time. Quincy
- Days Inn is a good place to get some rest, and Horseshoe Pond is a nearby lake that you could check out. From a rain point of view Shanty Bend Pond is a relatively normal spot; July is the wettest month with most rain; February is when it's the driest.

Cedar Creek
 | 1 PHOTO In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out.
