There's always Baxter Lake Dam to have a look at close to Schlotter Lake, and some nearby water includes Doe Run. Looking for something right next door to Schlotter Lake? Buck-Doe Run Watershed Lake Number 25 is around here, and camping at Camp Hickory Haven is always a brilliant experience. Schlotter Lake is a place with many visitors from Keokuk-Fort Madison, and Bear Creek is a brilliant whitewater spot close by. Summer at Schlotter Lake comes with high
temperatures in the 80's; the night is a bit colder of course, typically in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Schlotter Lake.
If you came to camp Hickory Haven Campground is a delightful location to do that; if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Locust Lane Nature Trail. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Comfort Inn Canton is a nice choice; if you don’t have

a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cedar Creek. If you want a glorious time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Schlotter Lake. Fairfield Inn Keokuk is a nice site to get some rest, obviously you could also stop by Baxter Ponds since you're here; it's not far at all.
From a rain point of view Schlotter Lake is a reasonably normal place; through July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago....
