     The beauty of Round Pond attracts many people from all around. This lake is so wonderful. Drift down the rapids of Bear Creek in a kayak, and a wonderful place to camp here at Round Pond is Camp Hickory Haven. For the period of the warm months at Round Pond highs are frequently in the 80's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. During the winter the highs are usually in the 30's; overnight lows during the winter for Round Pond tend to be in  
   the 10's. Very delightful water scenery is available at Baxter Lake Dam next to Round Pond; camping at Hickory Haven Campground is always a nice experience.
This lake is so wonderful. Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even more cool stuff to do here at Round Pond. If you get bored of Round Pond, you could also pop by close by Long Pond, and some of the water nearby flows, like Doe Run. Round Pond gets a normal amount of yearly precipitation; the
 
               month with most of the rain is July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
Keokuk Super 8 Motel is a great place to get some rest; this is a popular site for people from Keokuk-Fort Madison. If you come at the right time of year, Cedar Creek offers some great whitewater; a splendid nearby hotel is Fairfield Inn By Marriott Keokuk. Baxter Ponds is a nearby lake that you could visit, and the Locust Lane Nature Trail is a nice hiking trail nearby.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago....
