| | whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Hinkson Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Peterson Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Binder Park is a great local campground; the Cedar Creek Hiking Trail is a fine hiking trail close by. City, and swing by Foster Branch it's a tremendous place to check out. The yearly precipitation here at Peterson Lake is about average; through May this area sees the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. Through
the summer months at Peterson Lake temperatures are typically in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are ordinarily in the 30's with temperatures at Peterson Lake
dipping down into the 10's through winter nights. You could also pop by Ashland Lake if you're here at Peterson Lake; it's close by; Eagle Knoll Golf Club is a brilliant golf course close by.

 | 11 miles away There is a gage at Providence Rd, you can check water levels at this link: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=06910230&agency_cd=USGS My unladen solo canoe can scoot by at 30cfs, any less than that and I'm dragging. ...As of 6/18/2008, there is nowhere near enough water in the stream at the put-in (or much of the rest of the stream) for any kind of paddle-craft....This is a fun, after work run when the water is moving. There are no defined rapids, although there are several modest playspots: 1)S-Turn, near the back of the Walmart site, and 2) The Ultimate Surfing Wave which is downstream from the Old 63 bridge. Hazards include two low water crossings in the Stephens Golf Course. Portage is highly recommended at high water as the crossings act as low head dams. Water quality in the Spring can be an issue and several boaters in years past have contracted leptosporosis (aka lepto) from involuntarily ingesting the water. Mostly the Hink' is a fun float on moving water with enough wave action and eddys to keep things interesting. Suitable for canoes and kayaks. ... |
