     McKelvey Dam sees pretty high levels of rain; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is January. So much entertaining stuff in the Ozarks, just mind-boggling. There is a good hiking trail in the neighborhood of McKelvey Dam called the Lost Creek Nature Trail, and nearby you stumble on Burr Hollow which is a splendid site to stop at. You're almost certainly hooked on lakes, Lake Wopalanne  
   is one of those close by, and if the weather is magnificent, you can go for a hike along the Silver Mine Trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Nearby lakes? Sure, Lake Woaplanne is in close proximity to McKelvey Dam, and paddling on St. Francis River is so much fun. Through the warm days of summer at McKelvey Dam highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. High temperatures all through the winter
 
               are normally in the 40's; overnight lows through the wintertime for McKelvey Dam tend to be in the 20's. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Ozarks. Doll Lake Dam is striking and it's near McKelvey Dam, and Sam A Baker State Park is a magnificent campground nearby.
After a long day outdoors Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites FARMINGTON is a splendid site to spend a night or two, and you can stay the night at Holliday Landing Resort. This lake is so wonderful. On a nice day at McKelvey Dam you can take a hike along the Johnson Natural Area Backpack Trail. This lake is one of the great places here in the Ozarks.
Having a magnificent time at McKelvey Dam is painless. East Fork Big Creek is a charming stream that is worth taking a look at, and get dripping wet paddling on Little St. Francis River.

Been here and there is not a good put-in site for a boat.  The creek is one mile from where you can park a car unless it's right next to the St Francis river and that means you won't be kayaking down this creek.  Which is impossible unless there is serious rainfall....
