     At Baxter Lake Dam near McCullough South Dam there are some out of the ordinary things to see, and if you need a place to stay Comfort Inn Canton is a wonderful choice. McCullough South Dam is a place with many visitors from Quincy, and you can run the rapids of Cedar Creek. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this place. Camping at Camp Hickory Haven is always a tremendous experience, of course you could also take a look at Bruns Lake since you're here; it's  
   not far at all. Nearby lakes? Sure, Buck-Doe Run Creeks Watershed Lake Number 39 is next to McCullough South Dam, and Fairfield Inn Keokuk is a great location to get some rest.
Summertime brings highs in the 80's to McCullough South Dam. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. Highs all through the winter are regularly in the 30's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at McCullough South Dam dip into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful.
 
               Get your pulse rate up on the tremendous whitewater of Bear Creek; if you came to camp Hickory Haven Campground is a pleasant site to do that.
McCullough South Dam gets a typical amount of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is usually July, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is February.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago....
