     The beauty of Long Pond attracts many people from all around. The amount of rainfall that falls at Long Pond is close to the national average; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Camp Hickory Haven; Baxter Lake Dam is a gorgeous spot, absolutely worth going to. Have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Locust Lane Nature Trail, and during your  
   tour here you'll meet some folks from Quincy for sure.
If you need a site to stay Keokuk Super 8 Motel is a great choice, and camping at Hickory Haven Campground is always a good experience. This lake is so wonderful. The warmest time of the year at Long Pond arrives with high temperatures in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Long Pond.

               visit to Doe Run close to Long Pond is a splendid idea. Lakes? Sure, Round Pond is nearby. Dry warm beds await you at Fairfield Inn By Marriott Keokuk, and there are some wonderful whitewater spots on Cedar Creek. You assume that's sufficient? Just getting warmed up. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Bear Creek; Baxter Ponds is a nice lake nearby.

In response to keith's note. I've kayaked Cedar Creek several times. During heavy rain events the creek is VERY wild. And while yes it is bony, it's a fun ride.. especially since it's one of the only places to get above a class II ride around quincy. Additionally, DO NOT go to bear creek unless you plan on doing some flat water near where it meets the mississippi river. Any further upstream and you'll be dealing with hostile landowners who aren't aware of the navigability laws in illinois. You'll probably be met by a sherrif on the take out. See uploaded picture of cedar creek a couple of years ago....
