Lake Wauwanoka is not NEAR the Ozarks. It's a half-hour outside St. Louis and a good three t four hours from the Ozarks.

We live in DeSoto, Mo. and would love to sail Lake Wauwanoka. Would that be possible?

My first memory visiting the lake was in 1956 at the age of five. Along with my parents and five other siblings we stayed with my grandmother in her small cottage. My father was put to work on home improvements and all of us were given small chores to help fix the cottage where she resided. Cousins, aunts and uncles would come out for a visit. Over the years to follow the lake sponsored summer events. July 4th, everyone decorated their canoes and pontoons. Our pontoon was decorated in a hawaiian theme. My cousins and I made grass skirts from the weeds that grew around the lake. Oh, did we itch but we won first place. Of all the memories of my summer visits one of my greatest was the box turtle that visited every morning for strawberries my grandmother gave him. She named him Joe. She painted a red streak on his back to identify him. Each year she would touch up the paint. For the next twenty years I visited, so did Joe.

Lake Wauwanoka is always a pleasure to visit. And that's not all you can do here in the Ozarks. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Lake Wauwanoka has to offer, you can camp at State Of Missouri, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Hidden Valley. If you need a place to stay Drury Inn Festus is a great choice. All through the summertime highs here at Lake Wauwanoka get into the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's.

| | Through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's, and night lows at Lake Wauwanoka throughout the winter frequently drop into the 10's.
This lake is located in the wonderful Ozarks. The amount of precipitation that falls at Lake Wauwanoka is close to the national average; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month of the year is January. - SOUTH ST. LOUIS is a great location to spend a night or two, and an afternoon playing golf at Raintree Country Club is always a joy.
Stay the night at St. Louis South RV Park, and there's some exciting stuff to see at Lake Wauwanoka Dam in the neighborhood of Lake Wauwanoka.
