    Hunt Lake is a lake worth visiting. The amount of precipitation that falls at Hunt Lake is close to the national average; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is January. If you need a spot to stay La Quinta Inn AND Suites Columbia is a magnificent choice. This lake is so wonderful. If you came for an overnight stay Cottonwoods RV Park is a nice location to camp; whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for  
   you then, we recommend Hinkson Creek.
Any time is a great time at Hunt Lake if you fancy the outdoors. A quick trip to Sugar Branch near Hunt Lake is a fine idea, and if you've had enough of Hunt Lake, Cedar Lake is nearby. You're sure to encounter some good folks from Columbia here, and at Smarr Lake Dam close to Hunt Lake there are some exciting things to see. There is a gage at Providence Rd, you can check water levels at this link: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=06910230&agency_cd=USGS My unladen solo canoe can scoot by at 30cfs, any less than that and I'm dragging. ...As of 6/18/2008, there is nowhere near enough water in the stream at the put-in (or much of the rest of the stream) for any kind of paddle-craft....This is a fun, after work run when the water is moving. There are no defined rapids, although there are several modest playspots: 1)S-Turn, near the back of the Walmart site, and 2) The Ultimate Surfing Wave which is downstream from the Old 63 bridge. Hazards include two low water crossings in the Stephens Golf Course. Portage is highly recommended at high water as the crossings act as low head dams. Water quality in the Spring can be an issue and several boaters in years past have contracted leptosporosis (aka lepto) from involuntarily ingesting the water. Mostly the Hink' is a fun float on moving water with enough wave action and eddys to keep things interesting. Suitable for canoes and kayaks. ...
